FAQs

Q. What are your ratios?

A. Our staff to participant ratio is approximately 6:1. For surfing, we lower that to 3:1.

Q. Are you an OSCAR approved programme?

A. Yes we are. All working parents can apply for a subsidy by contacting work & income.

Q. What do we need to bring to BAC2SURF?

A. Participants should bring a healthy lunch with a drink bottle, sunscreen, wet suit (optional), hat, sandals, togs, jersey, and any prescription medicines. All sports equipment, surfboards, body-boards, etc. are already provided.

Q. How often will sunscreen be applied to my child?

A. All children need to be covered in sunscreen before signing in to BAC2SURF—this is required. The next application will be before lunch time, which is approximately 12pm.

Q. What activities do you provide for BAC2SURF?

A. We have a wide range of activities for our participants such as surfing, body-boarding, swimming, dodge ball, capture the flag, beach soccer, paddling, flag rugby, arts & crafts, obstacle courses, face painting, sand castles, cricket, and several others.

Q. Are kids grouped by age or activity?

A. We group our kids by activity and not by age. However, we will run specific activities for our  younger participants between 5-7 years old. Overall, we believe in a non structured environment where kids can freely move from one activity to another.

Q. What is the average age of your participants for BAC2SURF?

A. Our programme age range is between 5 and 14 years old. Most kids are aged between 7-11 and few are from 13-14.

Q. What if my child does not know how to swim?

A. Several of our participants do not know how to swim. Our staff are always in the water with your children and they are quick to access which kids can or can not swim. Then they guide the participants to the appropriate water depth for their particular level of experience.

Q. What safety precautions do you have for BAC2SURF?

A. Safety is our number one concern. All staff have a current first aid and CPR certificate, we teach ocean safety and awareness, we have identifiable participant swim caps when in the water, we have clearly marked boundaries, we provide large sun canopies for shade, we provide water coolers to keep children hydrated, we are located close to the Mount Maunganui Suf Club, we have chaperoned bathroom visits, and we are an OSCAR approved programme.
